The Power of Food Part 1 of 2

In the past 2 weeks, I’ve had follow-up communications with 2 clients who have each been amazed at the rapid and beneficial changes that have occurred in them by just changing their food!  The first person is a young woman in her early 30’s who has had many years of problems having to do with Irritable and Inflammatory Bowel and food allergy/sensitivity problems.  Four – five months ago, she began to have severe left hip pain.  She was actually admitted to the hospital at one point to be evaluated for the cause.  All tests were negative, but the pain continued to plague her.  In addition, she was begining to have discomfort in other joints of her body.  I suspected that the origin of the pain was coming from her colon, and indeed she had also been suffering from a worsening of lower GI  symptoms in recent months.  I asked her to change her diet – omitting certain foods that I thought would be contributing to her problems and focusing on others.  I also asked her to take digestive enzymes with each meal, and probiotics and prebiotics every day.  When I next heard from her, 6 weeks later, she told me that the pain was gone within a few days of changing her diet.  Her bowel symptoms were also markedly improved.  She had been quite compliant in following my advice, and understands that she will need to be careful for some weeks and months in order for her body to continue to heal.

Central to my advice to her (and all clients) was to eliminate refined and processed foods, and to focus on fresh, natural foods that she prepared herself in her own kitchen.  This results in decreasing additives and artificial substances that can irritate the GI lining and increasing vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that help with the healing process.

I’ll tell you the story of the second client, a 14 year old girl, in my next posting.
